MARDI GRAS and THE DEMENTED KREWE
A LOCAL HISTORY
Wherein we attempt to impose some order on this madness.

Next year will be our 20th of this nonsense and it’s been a blast. Every year, a new couple is chosen as King and Queen, identities are kept secret until the coronation. Many afterward join the royal court and serve in perpetuity. Several Krewes have come and some have gone. Krewe De La Loo hasn’t been seen in some years, but we remember them fondly. Krewe Des Cajuns, Krewe de Orpheus, Krewe Garcon De Partie are gone but not forgotten; Krewe Olympia & Krewe Boar Rouge as well as several others are going strong. No longer is Mardi Gras marked by only a handful of loonies on a quiet winter’s night. Dickson Street is now regularly blocked to traffic due to the large crowds. Seating at Jose’s for the coronation is very limited but participation in the second line is open to all. Feeling a little Demented of late? Come join us.
